Google is changing the way applications can access the Google Photos libraries, which is creating problems for owners of some digital photo frames. As the change is created to make your library of more private photos, it is also breaking how digital photo frames – such as those made by Aura and Cozyla – automatically update shows on their devices.
Aura makes picture -related photo frames displaying digital images you or anyone who has given access to the frame adds. While the company offers several ways to take photos on the device, a neat feature is that you can create a Google Photos album with, say, photos of your children and then turn on auto-sync to automatically add any new photos to your frame. So, you can share the album with her grandmother’s aura frame, and she would get a constant flow of new photographs of her grandchildren.
However, according to Jenisse Curry, senior director of communications at Aura, on March 17, 2025, Aura will deactivate its Google Photos automatic function. While Grandma will still have that album in her frame, she will no longer automatically update with any new photos you add. Instead, you will need to manually add pictures to it through the Google Photos app.
To have removed the functionality from a device you paid for is never beautiful.
Aura must do this because Google is changing Google Photos API, An action that the company announced last September that came into force on March 31. Curry says aura is going before the change to help customers pass.
Change limits how applications can access your photo library and no longer allow integrated access throughout your library or management of common albums. Instead, apps can only enter the photo or albums through the new Google Photos Picker API, which requires users to “choose” each photo by hand.
“We have had a deeper integration with Google Photos that enabled direct access from within the Aura app and the ability to automatically target a Google Photos album,” Curry said in an interview with eve. “This will leave because our app can no longer communicate with your Cloud library.”
According to this thread Reddit, Cozyla has also informed its users that its Google feature Auto-Sync is ending. eve Reached to Cozyla but had not heard from them again until the time of publication.
If Sync Auto was your favorite feature, Curry says Aura’s iCloud integration works in a similar way. “You can choose your favorite album, for example, and then every time you heart a photo, it will appear in your frame,” she says. There is also the option to activate the automatic with local albums on your rolling camera in iOS or local albums in Android folder, she says. Still, to remove the functionality from a device you paid for is never beautiful.
Google Colin Smith spokesman said eve“We are always looking for ways to update our APIs to improve user privacy, and we have API specially designed for digital photo frames and a program to help our partners update their products.”
Last month, Google announced that Google Photos will soon be available as ambient shows or screenwriters on more third -party devices. The feature is currently available on Google Nest screen and Google TVs. In a blog post, Google said he was working to expand the function on smart TV, tablets, refrigerators and digital photo frames.
Smith was unable to provide more information about which devices will be available and how it can be activated. Curry Aura said that, as long as they were aware, this new function would not replace the automatic synchronization feature being removed.
